Sudarshan Setu Inauguration: By PM Narendra Modi

 India’s longest cable-stayed bridge in Gujarat’s Dwarka, ‘Sudarshan Setu’, connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka island, has been constructed at the cost of ₹ 979 crore.

Delighted to inaugurate Sudarshan Setu today – a bridge that connects lands and people. It stands vibrantly as a testament of our commitment to development and progress.

“The four-lane 27.20 metre wide bridge has 2.50 metre wide footpaths on each side,” an official release said. Sudarshan Setu boasts a unique design, featuring a footpath adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides.

PM Modi offered prayers at Dwarkadhish temple before inaugurating the bridge.

Approval for the construction of the bridge was given by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in 2016.[2] Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the bridge between Okha and Beyt Dwarka on 7 October 2017.[3] It was constructed at the cost of ₹979 crore.

The bridge serves about 8500 people living on the island as well as about two million pilgrims visiting the temples there
Sudarshan Setu length: This cable-stayed bridge, spanning 2.32 kilometers, stands as the longest of its kind in India, as stated by the PMO. It connects the Okha mainland to Beyt Dwarka island. Formerly referred to as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ it has been renamed as ‘Sudarshan Setu’ or Sudarshan Bridge

Sudarshan Setu unique features: solar panels have been installed atop the footpaths of the new bridge. These will help generate one megawatt of electricity, according to the Prime Minister’s Office statement.
