🚗 Maruti Suzuki Flex Fuel Vehicles – Details

Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car manufacturer, is gearing up to introduce Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) in line with the Government of India’s push for cleaner and sustainable mobility solutions. Flex Fuel Vehicles are specially designed to run on multiple fuel blends, including petrol and ethanol (from E20 up to E85 or even 100% ethanol in some models).

🔹 Key Highlights

  • Eco-Friendly Technology: FFVs are equipped with an advanced engine management system that can automatically detect the ethanol-petrol blend and adjust performance accordingly.
  • Fuel Flexibility: Can run on conventional petrol or a mix of petrol and ethanol, ensuring convenience for users while promoting renewable fuel usage.
  • Lower Emissions: Ethanol burns cleaner compared to petrol, reducing harmful greenhouse gases and particulate matter emissions.
  • Cost Efficiency: Ethanol-blended fuels are expected to be cheaper than conventional petrol, which can help reduce running costs.
  • Government Alignment: Supports India’s roadmap for 20% ethanol blending in petrol by 2025-26 and aligns with the Ethanol Blending Program (EBP).

🔹 Expected Models

Maruti Suzuki is likely to roll out flex-fuel compliant versions of its popular models such as:

  • Maruti Suzuki WagonR
  • Maruti Suzuki Swift
  • Maruti Suzuki Dzire
  • Maruti Suzuki Baleno

These models will be equipped with upgraded fuel systems (corrosion-resistant fuel lines, modified injectors, sensors, and pumps) to handle ethanol blends.

🔹 Benefits to Consumers

  • Cheaper fuel options with ethanol blends.
  • Environmentally sustainable driving.
  • Smooth performance without needing separate versions for different fuel types.

🔹 Launch Timeline

Maruti Suzuki has showcased prototype flex-fuel models like the Swift Flex Fuel at auto expos and is expected to launch commercial FFVs in India by 2025-26, in phased manner, depending on ethanol availability at fuel stations.
