The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is a national-level entrance examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on a rotational basis, under the guidance of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

GATE is one of the most prestigious exams for engineering, technology, architecture, science, and humanities graduates seeking admission to postgraduate (M.E./M.Tech./Ph.D.) programs in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other leading institutions, as well as for recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, BHEL, GAIL, HPCL, and many more.

Eligibility Criteria (Expected for GATE 2026)

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates who have completed or are in the final year of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Arts/Humanities are eligible.
  • Age Limit:
    • No upper age limit for appearing in GATE.
  • Nationality:
    • Indian citizens as well as foreign nationals are eligible.

  • Maximum Marks: 100 marks

    1. General Aptitude (15 marks)
    2. Core Subject (85 marks)
